Who We Are

We are the obstetricians affiliated with BC Women’s Hospital.

While many health care providers deliver babies, OBs are doctors who have completed an additional 5 years of specialized training in obstetrics and gynecology after completing medical school.

What We Do

PRIMARY CARE

We care for women during their pregnancy, at their delivery, and during the postpartum period.

We manage both high and low-risk pregnancies, and perform all types of deliveries.

A referral from the primary care provider is required.

CONSULTATIVE CARE

We provide assistance to midwives and family doctors when women under their care develop complications of pregnancy, or require help with their deliveries.

Why Choose an OB?

Any woman can choose to see an OB for their pregnancy care.

Women with normal, low-risk pregnancies also have the option of seeing a midwife or family physician. Women with higher-risk pregnancies (eg. medical conditions, twins) will typically require the services of an OB.

Women who start off with a midwife or family doctor and develop complications during their pregnancy or delivery will require OB consultation, and, in some cases, a transfer of care to the OB.

Women under OB care can be assured that their OB provider will be able to manage most complications of pregnancy, and assist with the delivery, whether it be a normal birth, assisted vaginal delivery, or C-section.

Choosing the most suitable type of care provider can be confusing, and each model of care has its pros and cons.
